Harbin is favoured with beautiful natural scenery. Based on meandering Songhua River and subject to severe low temperatures in winter, Harbin boasts a unique ice and snow culture. So, Harbin is also called the 'Ice City'. Each winter fantastic sculptures created from snow and ice, ice lanterns and exciting sporting events attract thousands of visitors from home and abroad. The cool summers make Harbin highly popular as a natural summer resort.

Songhua River:
Songhua River runs across Harbin City for 5 kilometers. The river has several sand beaches and becomes an ideal swimming area in the summer when the water temperature reaches about 25 degrees centigrade. You can see young couples rowing boats on the river, anglers fishing at the riverside, and people bathing in the river. In the winter, when the river is frozen, Some people play with ice-sledges; some sail on ice-sails; some slide down on the ice-slopes; some speed on snowmobiles; and some swim in the icy water like polar bears.
ST. Sophia Church: ST. Sophia Church is the largest Russian Orthodox Church in Far East Asia. It occupies a floor space of 721 square meters and measures 53.35 meters in height. It is a typical Russian Orthodox Church in the Byzantine style.
Jile Temple:
The Temple of Ultimate Bliss is a Buddhist temple. With an area of 57,000 square meters, it is one of the four well-known Buddhist temples in Northeast China. There are four main buildings in the temple. The first one is the Hall of Maitreya Boddhisattva; the second is the Main Gracious Hall; the third is the Hall of Three Sacred Images; and the last one is the Tower of Buddhist Scripture. |
